Dr. Delroy Jefferson is a Consultant Anaesthesiologist and Intensive Care Specialist. He is currently the Medical Director of the Health Services Authority and has served as Chief Medical Officer of the Cayman Islands.
He graduated from the University of the West Indies (UWI) with BSc honours degree in biochemistry and physiology. At UWI he obtained his primary medical training as well as postgraduate training leading to the Advanced Diploma in Anaesthesia and the Doctor of Medicine in Anaesthesia and Critical Care. His residency training was at UWI, with fellowships in anaesthesia, critical care and pain at the Royal Victoria Hospital, (McGill University), Papworth (University of Cambridge) and National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery (University of London).
He obtained a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Management from the University of London and a Doctorate of Business Administration from the Swiss Management Institute and has recently received two post graduate degrees in general & medical law with distinction, and the LPCMSc Law and Business, University of Law with honors. He is currently studying for the Doctorate in Corporate Law. He is a former Medical Officer in Charge of the Sister Islands and Deputy Chair of the HSA’s Board of Directors. He is a member of the European Society of Anaesthesia, Society of Critical Care Medicine, International Association for the Study of Pain, National Association of EMS Educators, American Association for Physician Leadership, and the International Policy Governance Association.
He is past president of Rotary Club of Cayman Brac and was awarded District 2020’s President of the year 2001-2002. Currently a Board Member of Rotary Club of Cayman Sunrise. He has obtained numerous awards including Jamaican of the Year (2003), Emerging Pioneer Award for the advancement of medicine (Cayman IslandsHeroes Committee), International Distinguished Humanitarian Award (2018) and the Member of the Order of the Cayman Islands.
Dr. Jefferson has extensive experience in public sector management and policy as well as strategic and board development and has served on national and regional boards and committees. Most recently he chaired the National Covid-19 Clinical Taskforce.
